Student Life & Societies

The life of an undergraduate student at the University of Melbourne is both dynamic and rewarding.

Participation and involvement outside the class room can broaden your overall education experience. The University has a unique and wide range of activities, societies and services that give our graduates a broader life education - critical to the modern workplace, and ensuring a student experience that is intellectually stimulating, and socially rewarding.

The Faculty has two student groups, who represent the interests of Law students. They run social activities, career network, tutorials, mooting competitions and many other activities and programs to assist in your overall student experience. They are:

Clubs and Societies

Diversity and participation is a key to the learning experience. The University has over 300 clubs and societies, where students can experience and participate in areas from sport, politics, the arts and even food.

The Melbourne University Student Union (MUSU) is an excellent reference for clubs and societies.

In addition to the clubs and societies, the student union provides comprehensive advice and support for students. These services range from academic counselling to providing meeting spaces, library and IT resources.

Other services provided by the University

Language and Learning Skills
The University's central Language and Learning Skills Unit is available to all students for assistance with academic skills development on topics including note-making, essay writing and research skills.

Accommodation and Housing
The University can provide assistance to help you with arrangements for housing and accommodation through Student Housing Services. They can help you find accommodation and provide tenacy advice. Details about living in Melbourne can also be found on their website. Student Housing Services are located in the Baldwin Spencer Building.

Careers
The University actively seeks to improve career outcomes for its students. The Faculty regularly runs careers seminars and forums in conjunction with the External Relations Unit and the Law Student Society (LSS). It also provides a Law School Careers Office for all Law students.

Careers & Employment provide a comprehensive range of career services and can be found in the Baldwin Spencer Building .

LLB/Bachelor of Commerce

I enjoyed all of the law subjects (Legal Method and Reasoning, Principles of Public Law and Torts) that I have undertaken so far at the University of Melbourne. They were very intellectually stimulating and the academic staff at Melbourne Law School also played a very important role in enhancing my learning experience in those subjects.

It is also important that students strive to maintain a keen interest in what they study, participate regularly in seminars and get involved with extra-curricular activities on and off campus. I run and play tennis regularly, and I am currently involved with the International Law Students’ Society and the Singaporean Students Society.
