The International Law Students’ Society is dedicated to helping law students get the most out of uni. This includes serious stuff like careers events and fun stuff like trivia nights. We have some goodies especially for international students, but we cater to all law students at the Melbourne Law School.
We also have a presence on Facebook. Join the ILSS Facebook group to receive notices of the latest ILSS events. You can also find the latest photos from ILSS events there.

Results from the AGM
The annual general meeting this year was a success. Outgoing executive committee members reported on the dealings of the ILSS throughout the year. Everybody was astounded by the number of sponsors on the cash flow statement.
A few changes to our Constitution were passed. The ILSS Constitution page hasn’t been updated to reflect those changes yet. Some of the more noticeable ones include:
- Abolishment of the Education Officer position. Most of the duties of the Education Officer have been absorbed into the law school.
- Abolishment of the single Vice President position. The Secretary will now take on duties formerly held by the Vice President. The Vice President(s) mentioned in the Constitution now refer to the Sponsorship Vice President and the Careers Vice President.
- Abolishment of the First Year Representative co-opted position. With the phasing out of the LLB, there will be no first years to represent. First year JD students do not require special representation.
- More flexibility for the Committee to decide when to hold annual general meetings. The 31 August restriction was abolished so AGMs could be scheduled to better reflect the JD academic year.
- Special general meetings now require a written request from 100 members, rather than 10% of the total membership. This allows special general meetings to be called at the request of a significant proportion of members without the uncertainty of working out the total number of members.
Lastly, the election results were announced. The successful candidates can be found on the ILSS Committee page.
Il.legal
The next edition of il.legal is due to come out in the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for free copies around Level 2 of the Melbourne Law School.
