Owing to Melbourne’s unique status as a cosmopolitan ‘melting pot’, the university amalgamates the best from modern and traditional schools across cultures. Students and staff are friendly and approachable, contributing to a stimulating yet relaxing study environment. With a flexible and innovative programme that allows me to couple my law curriculum with Arabic language subjects, the university also abounds with opportunities for self-development through cross-cultural exchanges.

The university is a second home to me now. Living in one of its affiliated colleges helped me through the difficult transition to university, and introduced me to many people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. From Kenya to Mauritius, there is now someone whom I am able to call a friend, and whose study experience has been similarly enriched by the time spent at Melbourne University.

To prospective law students, I would suggest taking full advantage of university open days and faculty talks to get to know the subject – and the law school. Keep an open mind and remember not to shut off other career options too early. Talking to lawyers or law students about their experiences is also very useful in deciding whether law is a suitable option. After all, it is best to test the waters before taking the plunge.
