Helen Wallace

LLB Student, Glasgow University, Scotland

When I originally applied to take part in the exchange programme I applied to go to Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney because I wanted an opportunity to live in Australia and have a base from which to explore the rest of this beautiful country. Since coming to Melbourne, I have found the staff of Melbourne Law School to be very helpful with a few offering extra help to overcome the disadvantage of not knowing the basics of Australian law. My fellow students are also very welcoming, living up to Australia's reputation of being a friendly country!

During my semester here in Melbourne I have studied Taxation, International Business Transactions, Media Law and Environmental Law. All four courses have proved very interesting and I have developed research and problem-solving skills that I can use during my final LLB year. They have also given me an insight into a variety of diverse areas of Australian law.

My experience in Melbourne has boosted my personal confidence and helped my social, personal and intellectual development. When I return to Glasgow to complete my LLB I am planning to focus on International Private Law and my knowledge of Australian law will give me an extra perspective to the subject.
